Tales of the Madman Underground by John Barnes has been selected as a Michael L. Printz Award Honor Book; the Printz Award is given annually for literary excellence in Young Adult literature. Hold Still by Nina La Cour was selected as a finalist for the William C. Morris Award, which honors books written for young adults by first-time, previously unpublished authors. The Vast Fields of Ordinary by Nick Burd has won the first ever Children’s and Young Adult Stonewall Book Award for exceptional merit relating to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered experience. Pearl and Wagner: One Funny Day by Kate McMullan, illustrated by R.W. Alley has been named a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award Honor Book; the Geisel Award is given annually to the author and illustrator of the most distinguished book for beginning readers.
