Dear Reader,
They call me Firewalker, Dragon, Mick—or Micky if they want to piss me off. My real name is unpronounceable to most humans, so just call me Mick.
If you're new to the Stormwalker world, Janet Begay is a Stormwalker (she can manipulate the power of nearby storms to work amazing magic). I'm Janet's boyfriend, a dragon shapeshifter, and I'm pretty magical myself. I can wield streams of fire plus work some spells when I need to.
I ride a Harley and am inked, but my tatts didn't come from any human artist. They contain my dragon essence, and if Janet wants to run her fingers over them, that's fine with me.
I got into a little trouble with the dragon council not long ago for protecting Janet from them. The dragon council sets the rules for all dragons—or at least hauls them into court when they break said rules. Dragons are anal about law, but we have to be, because disputes between us could be deadly for the world at large. The sticks-up-their-butts dragon council didn't like the choices I made concerning Janet, so now I have to stand trial for those choices.
I say "trial," but they've already made up their minds. If I can't come up with a brilliant defense, the dragon council will fry me.
Janet's a sweetheart, and one hot Navajo lady, glowing with power. She blew me away when I first met her. She was fighting humans who were trying to kill her, but she pulled her punches, knowing she could obliterate them. Janet has amazing compassion, and I fell hard in love with her.
Since then I've been watching over her. It pisses her off a little, because Janet wants to walk free, but I'd die if anything happened to her.
I moved in with Janet in a small hotel she restored in a middle-of-nowhere town. She loves it, as much as she growls about its problems. The hotel attracts all sorts of supernaturals—we have a Wiccan manager, a drag-queen magic mirror, and a wolf Changer in residence. That's in addition to Nightwalkers, mages, and the god Coyote showing up whenever they feel like it.
Another dragon has moved to town, claiming he's here to help me with the dragon council, but I trust him about as much as I'd trust a crazed Nightwalker with an open vein. Janet is now vowing to protect me, which warms my heart, but we'll see how everything shakes down.
