A Dear Reader Letter from Vicki Lewis Thompson

Dear Reader,

Welcome to Big Knob, Indiana, where the conservative residents have no idea that a witch, a wizard, and an ADD dragon live in their midst!  They go about their daily routine, eating breakfast at the Big Knob Diner, having their hair done at the Bob and Weave, and sharing a drink at the Big Knobian Bar, all without realizing there's magic afoot.  Casual Hex is the third in a series, but fear not – you can dive right into Casual Hex without reading the previous two books.

I've had a blast creating the little town of Big Knob, which was founded by a witch in the early 1800s.  That explains why the streets are laid out in a pentagram, although the locals think it's a star.  A matchmaking witch and wizard, Dorcas and Ambrose Lowell, were banished here for magical misdeeds and given the task of rehabilitating George, the dragon who shirks his duties as guardian of the Whispering Forest.  In their spare time, Dorcas and Ambrose ply their matchmaking skills among the townspeople.

In Casual Hex, a wallflower named Gwen Dubois is about to come face-to-face with the Frenchman she's met on the Internet.  Dorcas and Ambrose bustle around trying to make that encounter go well, and in so doing they unearth the obstructionist tactics of a magical suitor, Prince Leo of Atwood, who has been invading Gwen's dreams.  Between refereeing that situation and struggling with a dragon who refuses to grown up, Dorcas and Ambrose have their magical hands full.

But then, nothing little ever happens in Big Knob.  I invite you to come for a visit!

Magically yours,
—Vicki Lewis Thompson
