Nigel Portwood
Executive Vice President, Global Operations, The Penguin Group

Nigel Portwood was appointed Executive Vice President, Global Operations of the Penguin Group in May 2008. He is responsible for technology planning and implementation across the company, and also for the redesign of the company's processes in areas such as workflow and production.

As well as having operational responsibilities, Nigel also looks after DK and Penguin South Africa. He is based in the US but spends much time traveling to Penguin companies around the globe.

Nigel was previously Chief Financial Officer of the Penguin Group from January 2003 through April 2008. Prior to that he was the President and CEO of Pearson Education Europe, Middle East and Africa from April 1999 until December 2002. Nigel joined Pearson in 1995 in the Strategy and Development Group at plc head office. From 1997 to 1999, he was Director of Strategy and Development for Pearson plc.

Nigel began his career working for a firm of Strategic Consultants in London, working across all industries but with a particular focus on media and consumer goods. He graduated from Cambridge University with an honours degree in Engineering and has an MBA from INSEAD.

Nigel is married with two children and lives in Connecticut.
