Froggy
Why Boys Will Read It:
Froggy does everything boys do! He goes to school, rides a bike, plays soccer, plays in the band and (oops) he even loses his swim trunks! Boys will love all of his crazy antics!
What It's About:
Froggy loves to try new things, but sometimes things get out of hand for him. He tried to take a bath on his own but created a HUUUUGE mess and he even lost his swim trunks at camp! Froggy always wants to help his friends and family, but he's always getting out of the difficult situations he gets into. Readers learn lessons alongside Froggy, one being: if you stick with something even though it's hard, you can surprise yourself at how much you can accomplish!
How to Teach It:
Froggy tries so many new things and sticks with difficult things even when he wants to quit. Have your students write about a time when they wanted to quit but didn't. Ask them what they might do if they are faced with something difficult again. What would they tell themselves in order to stick with it? Even if they are just struggling with homework, what's something they can think to themselves to stay positive and on task? Or maybe they are facing something more serious, talk about how they might handle it without giving up.
