Every January, Booklist editors select the previous year's top titles in
adult books, books for youth, media, and reference.
The short list of artists of the most distinguished American picture books for
children.
Presented annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division
of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American
picture book for children.
The Paul Hamlyn Foundation presents the Children's Book Award for the best work
of fiction for children. The award, which has been held since 1980, is unique
in that children and children alone decide the winner.
Presented jointly by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation and the New York Public Library, The Ezra Jack Keats Book Award was established in 1985 to recognize and encourage authors and illustrators new to the field of children's books. The New Writer and New Illustrator Awards are given annually to an outstanding new writer and new illustrator of picture books for children (age 9 and under). A distinguished selection committee (consisting of early childhood education specialists, librarians, illustrators, and experts in children’s literature review entries) seeks books that portray the goals and values of Ezra Jack Keats as expressed in his multicultural books, including: the universal qualities of childhood, a strong belief in family and community, and creativity and love of learning.
Honors the printed word in books with an extensive set of formal awards. Presented
annually in nine subject categories: biography, current interest, fiction, first
fiction (the Art Seidenbaum Award), history, mystery/thriller, poetry, science
and technology, and young adult fiction.
Selected by editors of The New York Times.
Awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division
of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution
to American literature for children.
