Sachets. What could be more Victorian? The word sachet conjures thoughts of elegant Victorian ladies with beautiful little packets tucked here and there to scent to every corner of their homes. In Victorian times, sachets were often used in the bedroom, scenting drawers of clothing, handkerchief or linens, or on dressing tables. At one time, their popularity was such that little aromatic packets were even used in correspondence, tucked into letters and parcels.

Instructions
1. Find or make a square of material. It could
be a handkerchief or any cloth square with
hemmed edges. Silk is preferred.
2.Draw or trace floral designs (some examples at right) on one side of each of the four corners of the cloth square. 3. Paint or stitch the designs, or color them with fabric markers. 4.Turn the square over and place a wad of cotton (or several cotton balls) sprinkled with scented talcum powder in the middle. 5. Fold up the corners and tie in a knot so that the designs on each corner are showing. (Refer to illustration at top.) |
