  How to Request Permission to Photocopy from Penguin Group (USA)
  • Please place your request as early as possible, (i.e. when you order textbooks) since we need time to research and perhaps refer you elsewhere since we do not always control rights to the material you want.

    Written requests must to sent to: Permissions Dept., Penguin Group (USA) Inc., 375 Hudson Street, New York, NY 10014, or Fax to: 212-366-2943 (this is the fax number for Permissions only) or submit via our web site. Your request should include the following information:

  • Title of Our book (not a textbook or other secondary source);

  • Our Author's, Editor's and/or Translator's full name, and Illustrator, if applicable;

  • Publisher's imprint (e.g. NAL, Dutton, Viking, Putnam, Tarcher, Riverhead, etc.)

  • ISBN of our book, if available

  • Identify the material as specifically as possible by title, chapter, pages, as well as author/translator if different from the book; figures, illustrations, graphs, etc.

  • Give full name of school, course, professor and term; or workshop name, or lecture with dates.

  • Total number of copies to be made, and if material will be distributed alone or part of a custom coursepack with other material.

Clearance for most Penguin Classics must be obtained from Permissions Dept., Penguin Group (UK) Ltd. 80 Strand, London WC2R 0RL, ENGLAND or Fax: 44 207-010-6060

NB: If your source is a textbook, an anthology or collection of various author?s works, you must review the copyright acknowledgment page(s) to locate the information pertaining to the original source for the material which you wish to copy. Your permission request must give the title of the book, author, material, copyright date etc. as it appears in the acknowledgment and should be directed to the party indicated as having given permission.

If the book is a paperback, please check the copyright page carefully for information indicating that the paperback was published by arrangement with another publisher and/or that a previously published hardcover was published by another publisher. In most cases you should apply for permission to the original hardcover publisher. If you are unsure, call the publisher with the information in hand.
