Trust for Sale, by Kate Veitch

It's out there! And yes, we have photographic evidence of Trust for sale.  My original editor at Plume, the lovely Allison Dickens, sent me a pic, taken at her local Borders store in Fairfield, Connecticut.  I was so excited, I put it up on my Facebook page.  Girlfriends sent congratulatory messages, while my son commented, "Right next to Stephanie Meyer.  Oh well, we've all gotta start somewhere."  LOL, as I have learned to say.

Facebook.  Oh dear, now I have to - really, really have to - ramp up my ‘online presence'.  I already have a Facebook page for me, but my book apparently needs one too.  Not to mention blogs (thank you, Penguin!) and Goodreads and Shelfari and ... and ... Go ahead, dear reader, tell me all the ones I don't know about, and should.  Must.  Will!

"Pre-digital," says a twenty-something character in Trust, pointing at her college art teacher (my main character, Susanna Greenfield).  And then "Post-digital," indicating herself and her fellow students.  Yes, I admit it: I'm pre-digital; not exactly a technophobe, but pitifully lacking geek aptitude. Susanna's difficulties with mastering such basics as emoticons are mine.

In terms of publicising my novels, this didn't matter so much in Australia, where print reviews are still being published, and read, in actual newspapers. Imagine that! There's also a national radio network, the ABC, which has a variety of stations; one broadcasts countrywide (and I had a full hour discussing the topic of trust on one of its most widely listened to programs), some in the state capital cities (of which, mind you, there are only half a dozen) plus a bunch of stations covering the regional and remote areas (of which Australia has rather a lot).  Not to mention the mania for Writers Festivals - I'll save that topic for another time!

Here in the US, my publicist at Plume, hard-working though she is (yay for Mary!) will be hard-pressed to get my novel the most fleeting of mentions in the mainstream media.  I know that.  So, alt media, bloggers, online reviewers - we need you!  Heed my call - Trust me!
