In my recent post here on Penguin's magnificent blog, we talked about sexy Greek Santas and the demon huntresses who love them.  Sounds a bit like a bad E True Hollywood Story, doesn't it?  Actually this week we've been playing Santa ourselves, dreaming up appropriate holiday gifts for the characters in my brand new paranormal romance series, Gods of Midnight, which launched with RED FIRE, and continues in the spring with RED KISS.

As I finished this book I couldn't help smiling because if there was one character (besides Shay and Ajax!) who fans kept mentioning in their notes and messages, it was Spartan servant River Kassandros.  And I totally understand their interest, begging, concern, pleading to know more.  You see, I left River in a bit of an, uh, desperate situation.  River's a shapeshifter, capable of becoming any weapon that his master Ajax might summon or require in battle.  Only problem with that nifty trick of River's (spoiler alert if you've not read RED FIRE) is that at the end of book one, he was tossed away into a literal river while still in dagger form.  He's been lost to the Spartans ever since.

Earlier this week, I introduced you to Ajax Petrakos, the Hunkiest Man on Any Holiday List (we’ll have to check with People Magazine to see if he’s in the running for Hunkiest Man Alive status, although my vote’s already cast!). In case you’re new to my Gods of Midnight series, Ajax is the hero of my newly released paranormal romance, RED FIRE, and I tossed out a few holiday gift items that this strapping warrior might appreciate.

Well, by now I’m sure that Jax is awash in bug zappers, cashmere sweaters and sports cars, but what of his new wife, Shay Angel? This demon huntress has been adjusting to an awful lot of change recently, including marrying an…uh, unusual man. Consider if you will what she signed on for with Ajax:

Immortal dude? Check.

Battler of evil? Check.

Hogger of bed and blanket? Check. (Uh, wait…Shay says she doesn’t mind about that part!)

My brand new Gods of Midnight series introduces you to a cadre of strong, immortal Spartan warriors dedicated to protecting the human race throughout eternity. Spartans-that word connotes sparse, minimal décor, void of pleasure and self-indulgence. And maybe that's true sometimes.

But not so with Ajax.

This guardian loves life. His eons of existence have taught him the value of sensation, luxury, fancy, joy. All of which makes Ajax an easy target for gifts like barrel-aged Scotch, illicit Cuban cigars, or, for the insanely extravagant gift-giver, a Ferrari 550 Maranello.

Of course Ajax's priorities have recently shifted. With the advent of Shay Angel in his life, he's suddenly concerned with far more than his own selfish enjoyment. And a whole new avenue of gift-giving opens up! Shay's Antebellum family estate in Savannah, Georgia, is plagued by mosquitoes, driving Ajax up the wall. So let's brainstorm a bit: mosquito netting to hang above their bed? Or one of those great bug zappers? They may sport a tacky blue light, and the noise might be annoying, but at least it'll keep our hunk bug free!

Deidre Knight is our guest blogger during the week of December 15th. If you have any questions for Deidre Knight, add a comment to any of her posts. Here is some more information about Red Fire:

A thrilling new series featuring seven immortal Spartan warriors protecting mankind- and confronting passion along the way...

Eternity has become a prison for Ajax Petrakos. Centuries after he and his Spartan brothers made their bargain for immortality, Ajax struggles to maintain his warrior's discipline. His only source of strength is his hope that he will soon meet the woman once foretold to him--the other half of his soul, Shay Angel.

Ajax searches for his destined mate on the haunted streets of modern-day Savannah, but he isn't the first to find her. Shay, the youngest of a powerful demon-hunting clan, can see the monsters that stalk the steamy Southern nights--an ability that draws the deadly attention of Ajax's worst enemy. As Shay and Ajax race to solve a chilling prophecy--one that could spell Ajax's death if they don't succeed--a fated passion arises, threating to sweep away everything in its path.
