Penguin Group (USA) leads the industry by far in terms of #1 bestsellers, a record for 2008. This marks the fifth time this year that Penguin Group (USA) has achieved four or more simultaneous #1 New York Times bestsellers in the same week.

For the week of March 2nd, In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan (The Penguin Press) holds at #1 in its seventh week on the hardcover nonfiction list; The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (NAL) holds at #1 in its fourteenth week on the trade paperback fiction list; The Faithful Spy by Alex Berenson (Jove) rises to #1 on the mass market fiction list in its third week; Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (Penguin) is #1 in its 56th week on the paperback nonfiction list; and A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle (Plume) holds at #1 for the third week on the paperback advice, how-to and miscellaneous list.

Penguin Group (USA) also continues to dominate The New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list, occupying six of the 16 slots. This marks the 17th week in a row (four months straight!) that Penguin Group (USA) has occupied 30% or more of the hardcover fiction bestseller list. This week, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (Riverhead) is #4, after over nine months on the list; Stranger in Paradise by Robert B. Parker (G. P. Putnam's Sons) is at #5 in its second week; World Without End by Ken Follett (Dutton) is #6, after nearly five months on the list; People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks (Viking) is #8 in its seventh week; The Ghost War by Alex Berenson (G. P. Putnam's Sons) debuts at #11; and Sizzle and Burn by Jayne Ann Krentz (G. P. Putnam's Sons) is #12 in its third week.
