THE ALL-TIME FASTEST SELLING OPRAH'S BOOK CLUB SELECTION DEBUTS IN TOP SPOT ON THE NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY AND PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY BESTSELLER LISTS
NEW YORK, NY - Thursday, February 14, 2008 - Penguin Group's A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, the new Oprah's Book Club selection, is the #1 bestselling nonfiction trade paperback book in the nation, debuting at #1 on The New York Times, USA Today and Publisher's Weekly bestseller lists. Plume, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), initially shipped 776,000 copies and - after only two weeks on sale - is already up to 3.6 million copies in print.
"We are thrilled by the overwhelming response that Oprah's viewers and readers have had for A New Earth-a book that can change the world" said Brian Tart, President & Publisher at Dutton and editor of the book. "The public clearly is embracing A New Earth, and we are racing to fill the incredible demand."
There has also been a remarkable response on Oprah.com since A New Earth was named Winfrey's 61st Book Club selection on January 30, 2008. Lisa Halliday, Chief of Communications for Harpo, Inc. said, "In just two weeks since the announcement of our upcoming free, interactive worldwide web event with Oprah and Eckhart, we have had more than 250,000 people sign up, and that enrollment is still strong and continues to rise."
For the first time ever, Oprah Winfrey will join author and renowned spiritual leader Eckhart Tolle to teach a free, live interactive webinar exclusively on Oprah.com. Each weekly class will correspond to a chapter from A New Earth, with the discussion focusing on the chapter's themes. The 10 weekly sessions will be webcast every Monday night from March 3 through May 5, at 9:00pm ET/6:00pm PT. To register for the class, log onto www.oprah.com/anewearth.
