My last ob/gyn vist revealed according to my doctor pre-diabetes blood levels. she recommended a low calorie diet or read the atkins book. So not being a dietician, i picked up the book and started the low - carb diet craze. Now, i must say reading the book and looking at what i fed my body daily shocked me. but one of the biggest was skim milk. I love milk. I drink skim milk thinking it was low in fat. but the carbs? 13mg per serving!!!!!!!! whew! and i 'went' through 1-2 GALLONS of skim milk a week, and thinking i was doing my body a favor! That was a tough thing to swallow. The soda, ok, i can understand that like drinking a glass of sugar. I don't consider myself a huge soda drinker, i drank a bit. 7-8 servings of soda a week. that is a hugh carb intake. I am 5'6" tall. and my weight at its worst is 190. I used to be wickedly skinny, up until I was about 30. Then got married. and I enlarged and puffed up. I am 42 now, and overweight at 190. i have lost 5 pounds on the Atikins diet, and although I have not taken it's 'carb' count all that serious, my clothes are looser. i have stopped drinking milk and soda and have started a serious excercise regime. 1 hour of water aerobics 2 nights a week, and 1 night of hour deep water jogging, and 1 night of a 1/2 hour walk. I think and will always belive that my slacking off of excercise made me gain weight. I was always very active before, biking, hiking, rock climbing, and then i just stopped. I have no children in my marriage, I was never able to conceive, so that can't even be used as an excuse. my question is I guess, long story short. really the key to any diet is a true excercise program. i feel so much better since i have started working out. and though it's a 'slow' start (water aerobics) i feel good. also i think taking the sugars out of my diet, more vegtables and healthier eating. as I have not been following the atkins diet to a 't', I am slowly losing weight. I just speeled off a whole long comment, not even knowing if this will get to someone on this website. but it felt good.
