Penguin Group (USA) wins 2007 Quill Awards "Book of the Year" Award for Second Consecutive Year:

Nora Roberts took home the prestigious “Book of the Year” award for her book, Angels Fall (G. P. Putnam’s Sons), at last night’s third annual Quill Book Awards, presented at a star-studded gala at Lincoln Center, hosted by NBC News’ Al Roker and Hoda Kotb, with a special guest appearance by Stephen Colbert. This is the second consecutive year that Penguin Group (USA) has won “Book of the Year,” an award that was voted on by consumers via a month-long online voting system this Fall. Tyler Perry claimed the prize in 2006 for Don’t Make a Black Woman Take Off Her Earrings (Riverhead).

Award winners also included Penguin Group (USA) authors Al Gore, Michael Weinreb and Patrick Rothfuss:

Al Gore won the award in the History/Current Events/Politics category for The Assault on Reason (The Penguin Press), accepted by his daughter, Karenna Gore-Schiff
Michael Weinreb took home the prize in the Sports category for The Kings of New York: A Year Among the Geeks, Oddballs, and Geniuses Who Make Up America’s Top High School Chess Team (Gotham)
Patrick Rothfuss was the victor in the Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror category for The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle: Day One) (DAW Books)

Nora Roberts’ Angels Fall (G. P. Putnam’s Sons) won an additional award in the Romance category, for the second year in the row, after claiming the prize in that category in 2006 for Blue Smoke.

Be sure to tune in on Saturday, October 27th, when many NBC Universal-owned and operated stations across the US will air a one-hour Quill Awards television special, hosted by Al Roker.

The Quill Book Awards, supported by Reed Business Information (the parent company of Publishers Weekly) and NBC, are the national “reader’s choice” book awards designed to honor excellence in writing, and to recognize the authors and illustrators of popular books. They are the first literary prizes to reflect the tastes of all groups that matter most in publishing – readers, booksellers, and librarians.
