Daniel Silva's The Defector Debuts At #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List

The Defector by Daniel Silva (Putnam) debuts at #1 on the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list for the week of August 9th. The Defector is the ninth novel featuring legendary art-restorer-cum-Israeli-secret-agent Gabriel Allon. BookPage said in its rave review of the book, “With a dollop of Simon Templar, a dash of Jack Bauer, the urbanity of Graham Greene and the humanity of John LeCarré, Daniel Silva has hit on the perfect formula to keep espionage-friendly fans’ fingers glued to his books, turning pages in nearly breathless expectation.” Daniel hit the ground running, appearing on NBC’s “The Today Show” live on the publication date, followed that same week by interviews on MSNBC-TV’s “Morning Joe,” CNN’s “Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” and “Glenn Beck.” Between television appearances, Silva spoke about his book and the current state of affairs in Russia on national radio programs including the “Hugh Hewitt Show,” the “Glenn Beck Show.” This Friday night, he will be heard live for a full hour on “The Jim Bohannon Show” on Westwood One, which is syndicated on more than 300 stations across the country.

Daniel Silva is in the middle of a 20-city tour, jam-packed with media and events. Readers are turning out in record numbers to his events, with highlights including the launch event on the on-sale date, at Barnes & Noble-Lincoln Triangle in New York. The special events room was standing room only, with 225 people gathered in to hear Daniel speak. At the Poisoned Pen in Phoenix, there were over 200 people in line to get books signed--despite an outside temperature of 107 degrees! In Houston, Murder by the Book accommodated 300 happy customers, and at the St. Louis Public Library Daniel answered questions and signed books for a crowd of 350. He is in the home stretch of the tour now, with major events forthcoming in Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, San Diego and Tampa, FL.
