Internet Dating Can Be Hazardous to your Love Life, by Andrew Trees:

Internet dating can be hazardous to your love life!

Don't get me wrong. I know lots of people who have found love on the Internet, but I have also come across enough disaster stories to feel that a few words of caution are in order. Let me offer three reasons why anyone should be a little leery of dating web sites.

1. Deception is rampant. I should add that deception is fairly prevalent in dating as a whole, so this is not just an Internet problem. But the ease with which people can lie on the Internet makes this a much bigger problem for dating web sites.

2. Too much choice is not always a good thing. Research shows that when people are faced with too much choice, a variety of things start to happen. First, it becomes much more difficult to make any choice. Second, the criteria you use to make a choice become increasingly arbitrary. Third, you end up more dissatisfied with whatever choice you do eventually make. I talked to a number of Internet daters who experienced various levels of this, and many of them swore off Internet dating because of it.

A convention that truly gets better with age, the NYC Comic Con this weekend was a rollicking good time.  Attendance was up and spirits were high, and Penguin was there to introduce you to some of our new spring fantasy and science fiction titles--including the brand-new hardcover in the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, Turn Coat (coming in April) and a new adventure with everyone's favorite shape-shifting auto mechanic Mercy Thompson in Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (out now).

Penguin at New York Comic Con, by Joan Lee:

(View entire post here)

Over the weekend, fans of comic books, fantasy, science-fiction, and everything in between flooded the floors of the Jacob Javits Center to attend the 2009 New York Comic-con. Penguin authors such as Amber Benson, Lev Grossman, Marjorie M. Liu, Graham Roumieu, Tom Sniegoski, Michael P. Spradlin, and Anton Strout were in attendance to meet fans, sign autographs, and participate in panels.

At the Penguin booth, fans stopped by to collect Jim Butcher buttons, Eon posters, Star Wars samplers, and browse through books by Charlaine Harris, J.R. Ward, John Flanagan, and others. A limited number of lucky fans were able to pick up advance copies of upcoming books by Anton Strout (Deader Still), Lev Grossman (The Magicians), and Marjorie M. Liu (The Iron Hunt).

In case you missed it, never fear—Penguin will be back in action at the San Diego Comic-con!
