James Snyder received his Ph.D. from Princeton University and was for many years Professor of Art History at Bryn Mawr College. He also taught at the University of Michigan, Princeton University, and Johns Hopkins. Among his many honors and awards, he received Fulbright fellowships to the Netherlands and to Italy, a National Endowment for the Humanities grant for research in the Netherlands, and the Arthur Kingsley Porter prize given by the College Art Association. He was also a Fellow at I Tatti in Florence.
