Philip Warner, a native of Warwickshire where his family have lived since 1600, a graduate of Cambridge University, is the author of 48 books, mainly on military history, including four on castles, all of which required extensive travel and research.
He served in the army throughout the Second World War, mainly in the Far East, and was subsequently an Assistant Principal at HM Treasury, working in the Defence Materials Division, a Lecturer for the British Council in Spain, and a Senior Lecturer and Head of Communication Studies at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He has been a military obituaries correspondent for the Daily Telegraph since 1987. He is a member of the Royal Archeological Institute. When not researching or writing, his recreations are rugby football, fly-fishing, sociable wine-drinking, conversation and music of all varieties. He is a member of the Athenaeum, the Harlequin Rugby Club, Jester's Squash Club and Sandhurst's trout-fishing club.
