La Leche League International was founded in 1956, when seven women, committed to breastfeeding at a time when most babies were bottle fed, met in a Chicago suburb to provide information and support to mothers. La Leche has since grown into the world?s leading breastfeeding organization, with over 3,000 groups in nearly 50 countries.
