Margaret Barbalet

Margaret Barbalet was born in Adelaide and grew up in remote north-west Tasmania. She has since lived in Adelaide, Port Moresby, Bathurst, Cambridge, Canberra and Kuala Lumpur. She wrote the widely acclaimed children's book The Wolf, which was published in the UK, Canada and the US, won the 1993 Human Rights Award for children's literature, and was shortlisted for the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards. She has written six other books, including Steel Beach, shortlisted for the Vogel Award, and most recently The Presence of Angels. Reggie Queen of the Street was named an Honour Book in the 2004 CBCA Award: Early Childhood.
